Journal of a Prabhupada Man, Entry #1 By Sankarshan Das Adhikari Posted June 23, 2003 Thursday, June 19, 2003, Austin, Texas What incredible mercy we've received from Srila Prabhupada! He wants us to make the whole world Krishna conscious. That's impossible, right? But Srila Prabhupada said that "impossible" is a word in a fool's dictionary. So we have to dedicate our entire lives to trying to accomplish the impossible. Talk about shooting for the rhino! Srila Prabhupada explains this in the purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 4.12.36: "A Krishna conscious being is
always engaged in planning how to take
all of suffering humanity back home,
back to Godhead. Even if one is not
successful in reclaiming all the fallen
souls back to Godhead, still, because he
is Krishna conscious, his path to
Vaikunthaloka is open. He personally
becomes qualified to enter the
Vaikunthalokas, and if anyone follows
such a devotee, he also enters into
Vaikunthaloka."

This year we celebrated the Chandan Yatra festival a second time at New Talavan temple. Actually, in India this festival is celebrated for 21 days, but here nobody knows how to put chandan [sandalwood] on Lord Krishna. That's why we celebrate only three days. of India Youth Bus Tour (ISKCON Youth Ministry, USA) Posted May 21, 2003 For the past nine years, 35 to 45 young devotees from around the world have been traveling to temples and Ratha-yatra festivals across North America with the Vaishnava Youth Bus Tour, organized by Manu and Jaya Radhe along with other volunteers at ISKCON Youth Ministry. The youths performed dramas, kirtanas, and book and prasadam distribution, thus enlivening anyone who had the pleasure to come in contact with them. H.H. Jayadvaita Swami, H.H. Kavichandra Swami, and H.H. Ramai Swami have all toured with the youths. (If you are an ISKCON guru or sannyasi or GBC who would like to come and lend your association to our youths for a couple of weeks on our tour, please contact manu@krishna.com. This would mean a lot to the youths.) Vaishnava
Swami's From Adi-kurma Das Posted May 7, 2003 "There is a reason for this walking fever," says Bhaktimarga Swami. "The point is about peace and awareness. I love this country, but I am concerned. We are big-time consumers and suffer terrible problems within our families. We are set in superficial coziness. We can do better." After covering 8,500 kilometers in 210 days in 1996, from west coast to east coast, he has rekindled the ambitious trek and will start on May 3rd at Cape Spear, Newfoundland— North America's easternmost point. He will traverse the entire country and will end in Victoria, B.C. Posted April 23, 2003 Dear Devotees, Hare Krishna. Pranams! Jaya Srila Prabhupada! We want to inform everyone that the ISKCON center in Tampa, Florida, has moved to a bigger place. The new address is: 14607 N 16th Street Toronto: World Religion Students Visit New Remuna Dham By Adi-kurma Das Posted February 1, 2003 "Can you explain the word Hare Krsna ?" asked Mark, a world religion student, as I was guiding a group of twenty bright, open-minded students through the temple, explaining about the Hare Krsna Movement. James William Windland (we know him as Larry) is the director of Encounter, a world religion center. Larry brings groups of seekers of religion to the temple and introduces them to Vaishnavism. So on January 7th, he brought a group of world religion students. I explained the roots of Vaishnavism and how the Hare Krishna Movement is related to a bonafide lineage. The students were curious and were shooting questions at me as we walked around inside the temple. Judge: Devotees Can Distribute at L.A. "I will take two boxes." "Haribol..." That was the mood among the congregation members for distributing Bhagavad-gita As it Is. Yes, I am talking about Gita Jayanti and the book-distribution mood at New Remuna Dham, Toronto, Canada. Book distribution is a service that Arjunanath Das has taken up to glorify Srila Prabhupada: distributing books among the congregation members and to the Torontonians in general. When I asked how many copies of Bhagavad-gita As It Is we have been able to distribute all together, he e-mailed me all the names and the figures. Wow! That was over 500 hardbound Bhagavad Gitas in the month of December alone. Mahabharata — Like You've Never Seen! By Bhakta Wallace Posted January 18, 2003 Exciting new adaptation. Our vision

Meet Arizona Governor-Elect
Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Jan 6– Hare Krishna devotees met with Arizona governor-elect Janet Napolitano during an Interfaith Prayer Service conducted by Reverend Jan Olav Flaaten of the Arizona Ecumenical Council. At the end of the service, the devotees had an opportunity to meet Ms Napolitano. I greeted her with "Hare Krishna," and she responded by saying "Hare Krishna." Then the prayer hall began to reverberate with "Hare Krishna" as the entire audience chanted. Arizona is famous for one of the seven natural wonders of the world: the Grand Canyon, where the bottommost group of rocks is known as Vishnu Schist. Krishna and Vishnu are the same, and thus, Krishna is known to Arizonians— and the entire world. In the Hindi language, the name Arizona can be taken in another way: ari+jo+naa, or one who (jo) is not (na) an enemy (ari), thus friendly to everyone.
Toronto:
American Academy Seven thousand delegates attended the annual Symposium of the American Academy of Religion in Toronto, from November 22nd to 25th. Afterwards, about 50 scholars and student delegates, appreciative of the interfaith efforts of His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami, attended a memorial service for him in the dining hall at the Hare Krishna Temple on Avenue Road. Anuttama Das, Director of ISKCON Communications, North America, inaugurated the event with an introductory speech. The next item was a kirtan by the Toronto Devotee Youth Group. The chanting, performed in a melodious style, brought smiles and a round of applause from the delegates. Pyramid
House Goes Solar [This article also appeared in the Topanga Messenger, November 28 - December 11, 2002, under the title "Shapiro’s Pyramid House Goes Solar."] As the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa struggled to agree upon a final declaration, the happy installers from SoCal Solar Energy were putting the finishing touches on my six-kilowatt solar electric system, now pumping clean energy into the ubiquitous "grid." I sighed with relief as I witnessed Southern California Edison's meter spinning backwards, deducting kilowatts from my bill. During the five-day installation, my neighbors gawked at the array of solar panels on my roof and then quickly made their commitment in the form of a $1,000 deposit to get their reservation into the state's rebate system. Although Topanga is anything but a "keeping up with the Jones's" community, when it comes to saving the environment, I think we welcome friendly one-upmanship. Link
to East Hartford Write-Up The East Hartford Gazette recently carried an article about Govardhan Puja: Calf has role in Hare Krishna Temple
ceremony Once a year, in November, devotees of the Hare Krishna Movement gather in the inconspicuous yellow temple house on Main Street to celebrate Sri Govardhana Puja or the Festival of the Lifting of the Hill by the Indian deity Krishna. [For the rest of the article, go

Rasamrita Trust Dear Reader Prabhus of <dipika.org>, Hare Krsna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. You'll be delighted to know that grammar schools, high schools, colleges, universities, and public libraries have accepted Srila Prabhupada's books from Prabhupada Rasamrita Trust. Should all of you be able sit in my seat, speak to these librarians on the phone, exchange e-mails with them, and receive their enthusiastic, grateful letters of heartfelt praise for Srila Prabhupada, your hair would stand on end. Mahabharata
Play for Next Year Hare Krsna! We are proud to announce that Mahabharata is being produced in conjunction with the Gorilla Theater Company of Kansas City, Missouri, in the fall of 2003. This is the first time to our knowledge that a supposedly non-devotional theater company is becoming involved with a devotional play. Interfaith in Toronto: Two Festivals By Adi-kurma Das Posted November 24, 2002
The Interfaith Universal Peace Festival — an annual event that takes place in Toronto during summer along with other multi-faith and multi-cultural events in the city:ISKCON was invited to attend and present a peace formula from the Hindu tradition. I gave a short talk on who we are and what we practice and quoted from Bhagavad Gita As It Is, the peace formula given to us by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna. |
