Hare Krsna! Please accept my sincere
respects and good wishes.
The tragic killer hurricane that
devastated the Mississippi and Louisiana
coastlines also left its mark on New
Talavan and the cow protection program.
Although the cowherd survived the
storm, the future is questionable. Downed
fences are the biggest problem. Because
so many trees were blown over, naturally
many fell on fences and houses.
Consequently, our fence system suffered
much damage.

Dear Devotees,
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina,
everyone has experienced the awesome
reality of just how fragile our material
existence is. Twelve hours of wind, some
rain, a few tornadoes—and a major city is
crippled, a community shattered, and
opulent lifestyles destroyed for many,
perhaps millions of people. Srila
Prabhupada writes:
"In the grim clutches of maya, the
first-class prisoners of this material
world wrongly think themselves happy
because they are rich, powerful,
resourceful and so on...."

The power of the Lord's external
energy is inconceivable. How one storm
can destroy the social structure of an
area ranging from 50 miles west of New
Orleans all the way to Mobile, Alabama is
stunning. In Mississippi, everything from
Jackson on south is devastated. There are
no commerce, transportation, or other
normal activities going on.
Despite our good fortune to have our
temples in both New Orleans and New
Talavan emerge relatively unscathed, the
harsh reality is that there is no
functioning society around us. The
devotees in New Orleans are virtually
trapped.

I just spoke to them last night after the

Today there is some flooding, but the
devotees are continuing their service and
have plenty of prasad. The Deities are

Sankarshan Das Adhikari has broken new ground in the field of spreading
Krishna consciousness. In January of 2003 he started an e-course called "The
Ultimate Self-Realization Course" for teaching the science of Krishna bhakti via
the Internet. He had previously put up a web page in an attempt to sell
Bhagavad-gita but had gotten no result. He then reasoned that if he could
first win people's trust by giving them something of value for free, he could
then interest them in studying Srila Prabhupada's books.

Every

turn out to see the fireworks and
participate in the festivities. To make
the event worthwhile, devotees from the
Denver ISKCON temple lead a Harinama
procession through the crowds. For much
of the evening there isn’t much in the
way of entertainment, so most of the
crowd welcomes our chanting party. This
year three or four people remained with
us the entire three hours. Here are some

The

From Caru Dasa

We subtitled the Gita Fest this year
The Projector Fest. The new BenQ
projector remained on from 6 pm until 9
pm in one capacity or another. From 6 pm
until 6:30, as people were arriving, we
showed Vrndavan, Land of Krishna
on the 9-foot by 12-foot screen. The
image filled up the whole screen in
sharp, vivid color.
Next, I introduced and explained the
concept of Gita Yajna, a sacrifice
wherein 108 offerings would be placed on
the fire for each of the 108 key verses
in the Bhagavad Gita. I asked Sri
Sharma, Yogi Shah, and Dinesh and
Kalpana Patel to be the yajnamanas. Our
process was for me to chant each of the
verses from memory and say
"Svaha" while the yajnamanas
put the samagri (a special blend of
herbs) onto the fire. Simultaneously,
each verse would appear in English on
the big screen. Rajeev would use the
remote control to move from one verse to
the next, and then he would say the
English.

other seniors' groups who have visited
our temple, came with 57 people on a bus

long. I made fancy rice with peanuts,
raisins, and mixed vegetables, some
spicy spaghetti with olives and chunks
of TVP®
(texturized vegetable protein), and
matar paneer, the very popular Indian
dish with peas and curd. For the first
time I tried soaking the fried curd in
warm whey, turmeric, and salt, before
putting it with the peas. This soaking
gave it a juicy, soft consistency.

The three classes at Mountain View

are not at all for adult education, as I
had thought. The last time I did classes
with Rod Jackman out of the UVSC (Utah
Valley State College) media center, it
was for adults and being video fed out
to other high schools for evening
classes.
This is much bigger. The three
classes I teach today are regular
daytime classes with 30 to 40 students
from Mountain View High in each class.
Simultaneously, each class is video fed
out to another six high schools. That
makes approximately 250 students per
class and three classes means more than
750 students see the classes.

What jumped out of the cassette

the entire material society, that it is
being mismanaged by rogues and thieves
and therefore plunged into a suffering
condition. Srila Prabhupada is
instructing us to take the management,
to become the guiding authorities for
the entire world population.
What a broad vision Srila Prabhupada
has for this Krishna consciousness
movement! What a broad vision we must
also have as his followers! We are meant
to manage the entire human society by
the enlightened guidance so
systemically, carefully, and lovingly
presented in Srila Prabhupada's books.
Many of our devotees and members have
lost their faith in ISKCON as being an

The sweet nectar of preaching Krishna

Out of his causeless mercy Srila

even while getting old and dying within
this rotten material world. I’ve taken
my share of his mercy by opening an
