Krsna and Kaliya:
|
|
|
August 19, 2005–
Hare Krsna. The day on which we celebrate the appearance of Balarama is also the day that Krsna chastised the Kaliya serpent. On this day, so many hundreds of years ago, Krsna went to the Yamuna to herd the cows without His elder brother, who had stayed at home to observe ceremonies connected to His birthday.

On Friday, July 8, 2005, ISKCON Baroda observed Sri Jagannath Rathayatra Mahotsav on the traditional date (same as at Puri), Aashadh Shukla Dvitiya (aashaadh sud bij in Gujarati).
The Rathayatra procession started at 2:30 PM on a dry day, less than a week after torrential rains played havoc with normal life all over Gujarat, and the procession received a tremendous response from the public.

Dear Devotees,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
It has come to our attention that some temples are sending devotees to Vrindavan with terminal diseases so they can their bodies in the holy dham, expecting support, facility, and cooperation.
We are sorry to inform everyone that at this time ISKCON Vrindavan has no hospice facility or funds for this, nor is there any medical personnel or support group to assist terminally ill persons.
Day One – April 17
Rama Navami, April 18, marked the 30th anniversary of the first and only complete temple ever built by Srila Prabhupada, Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Mandir. Up to that time we had remodeled churches, a temporary temple in Mayapur, one in the making in Bombay, or houses in the low-rent area painted bright colors with a sign "Radha Krishna Temple" hung out front.
The appearance day of Lord Ramachandra (Rama Navami) was celebrated in the temple on April 18 with great enthusiasm. More than seven hundred people attended the festival.

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and the awesome Lord Narasimhadeva
I wanted to go to a certain Narasimha temple here in Jodhpur with some friends, but the rickshaw driver insisted that Jodhpur had no Narasimha temple. Little did he know that I had already been to two Narasimha temples here. The problem was that I didn't remember the directions to the one I wanted. So the rickshaw man and my friends started arguing, and finally the driver gave in.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India the Honorable Kairat Umarov and the First Deputy Governor of South Kazakhstan Honorable Islam Abishev visited ISKCON Juhu, Shri Shri Radha Rasabihari Mandir.

The sound of the 14-inch brass bell peals across the waters of Vrinda Kunda and then beyond the borders across fields parched by the relentless Indian summer sun. The Vrinda Kunda area is set like an emerald among these empty fields. Three irridescent green English flycatchers perform their acrobatics just above the cool green waters. Two kokilas, madly in love, warble on the fifth note as they flit from tree to tree. The kingfisher reveals himself like a flash of bright blue lightning as he dives from the edge of the ghat to the water.

Fishes and Swamis:
Jumpin' at the Boat Festival
Auspicious confirmations highlighted Sri Sri Radha-Madhava's Boat Festival the other night in Mayapur, as Lord Matysa sent two finned representatives to join the festivities.
By seeing Their Lordships glistening with sparkling blue chandan [sandalwood], almost hidden behind 20 garlands of fruit and flowers, surrounded by 40 varieties of bhoga offerings, and cooled by the waving of yak-tail and peacock fans, one could get a glimpse on the physical plane of what Krsna's aprakata pastimes may be like.

On 20th April, history was made at the Ujjain Kumbha Mela when the All India Sadhu Samaj officially accepted Lokanatha Swami as a mahant representing ISKCON. This happened only after a long battle over several days, where Sarvabhauma had to answer many, many objections and prove ISKCON is a bonafide Vaisnava sampradaya. It was a glorious fight, but on the day of the Sahi Snana, or Royal Bath, ISKCON had its own place in the procession, and the devotees were dancing like firebrands in what became a victory march to the Rama Ghat.

Staying Alive
Dawn Gibbs arrived at Delhi International Airport and got a pre-paid taxi to take her to the Brahmakumari ashrama there. She never made it. The taxi driver murdered her in an attempt to rob her. He then paid someone Rs.10 to clean the car of the blood, returned to the pre-paid taxi stand, and then returned home to sleep, where the police caught him.
India, despite the superficial coverings of what is considered civilization, remains a very dangerous and cruel place as Dawn Gibbs found out. The dangers for a Westerner traveling alone in India cannot be underestimated, especially for women.
During a visit to Vrindavan dhama, Hare Krsna Rural Life (www.hkrl.com) had the good fortune to be able to sit down and interview Kurma Rupa Prabhu (KRP) about his efforts in starting and maintaining the program Care for Cows in Vrindavan. He provided valuable insight into the spiritual perspective of protecting the cows and we were impressed by his selfless commitment to cow protection. The Care for Cows in Vrindavan website can be found at www.careforcows.org.
ISKCON Juhu: Makar Sankranti and Jagannath Rath Yatra
The day 14th January 2004, marks the auspicious day when Srila Prabhupada installed Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari 26 years ago. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, ISKCON Juhu distributed about 45,000 plates of hot prasadam meals in different parts of Mumbai to underprivileged people. Also thousands of packets of peanut-and-sugar candy and til laddus were distributed to the citizens of Mumbai.

After the opening if ISKCON's Rukmini Dwarakadisa Temple in Dwaraka, the devotees traveled to the city of Rajkot for the installation of Lord Narasimhadeva.
Although there were many life members in Rajkot, an ISKCON temple had not manifested. Then His Holiness Mahavishnu Goswami went there and was very well received. The government has given eight acres of land just outside of the city on the main highway and in less than a year the devotees constructed a temple and guesthouse and established the worship of Sri Sri Radha Nilamadhava. Of course plans are for a very large project and the local members are very enthusiastic.

On behalf of the management and all the devotees of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to His Holiness Radhanatha Swami and the devotees of ISKCON Chowpatty. For almost six months, six or eight devotees remained here in Vrindavan on a rotating basis to give special training, classes, and association to the brahmacaris here in our ashram. Many devotees took advantage of their classes and association and were enlivened in Krishna Consciousness.

Mass Prasadam Distribution in Kolkata on New Year's Day — Inaugurated by West Bengal's Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Subash Chakravarty
A massive prasadam-distribution program was launched by ISKCON Kolkata on January 1, 2004, at Shealda Station, one of the busiest places in Kolkata. The Railway Department allowed us to use the whole parking lot in front of the station. Devotees of our Kolkata congregation had prepared a nice pandal, and many devotees gathered to cook and distribute Krsna's mercy to everyone.
In December 2003, ISKCON opened a beautiful Rukmini-Dwarakadish Mandir.
Dwaraka is well known as the place where Lord Krsna stayed for many years until His departure. In Lord Krsna's time it was a huge, opulent city with 900,000 palaces. Now it is a small village, but Lord Dwarakadish is still the center of attention. His beautiful temple was first built by Visvakarma under the direction of the Lord's great grandson.

On 3 December 2003, the Heaven on Earth project was inaugurated at Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Temple, Juhu, Mumbai, within the premises of Hare Krishna Land. The Heaven on Earth project is a Vedic educational and cultural complex as inspired by Srila Prabhupada.

Sandipani
Muni School
Vrindavan, Kartik, Sharad Purnima full moon, many beautiful young gopis dancing ecstatically around Sri Sri Radha and Krishna in their colorful outfits...
It sounds like a description from the 10th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, but this is what has been happening these days on the stage of our new Sandipani Muni School.
