From Kavicandra Swami Posted Dec. 2, 2004 In Ghana there were many significant events. For now here is a short report on our visit to the town of Sunyani. We somehow were able to meet the paramount chief, or king of the whole area. He was surrounded by all of his ministers, and we went around and shook hands with everyone. The most enthusiastic of all was a young man who was a classmate of Ramesvara Prabhu, a devotee from the area. From Kavicandra Swami Posted November 20, 2004 Everyone has heard of Mr. Suharto, the former president of Indonesia. He was the longest-standing national ruler in the world until deposed a few years ago. He was powerful, rich, and famous. Now he is sick and isolated.
The
Gouranga Kite In Bali the devotees are really catching up on the spirit of advertising the holy name. Here are some photos of the latest kite. I hope to soon have thousands of these flying. krsne matir astu Your servant,
Salagram
in Scotland Some time back there was a discussion regarding the Salagram worship in Scotland. In my opinion, the Lord in His Salagram Sila form is happy there. I am enclosing a photo of Their Lordships, and another of how the Lord, as Caitanya Mahaprabhu, has shown His pleasure by manifesting in the form of about one million books. The books are all prepaid, and the distribution is big. Call out "Gauranga!" and be happy. krsne matir astu.
Kolkata
Ratha-yatra From Kavicandra Swami Posted September 27, 2004 Many of you must have noticed the town of Ranaghat while motoring between Sridham Mayapura and Kolkata. What most devotees do not know is that there is an active preaching center there, run by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) and staffed by blissful brahmacaris. There are wonderful fruit gardens with jackfruit and mangos, and the devotees there are protecting cows. In the temple, they worship Lord Jagannatha. On the 19th of June, they held their Jagannatha Ratha Yatra, on the same day as in Puri and Kolkata. Amazingly, their Ratha Yatra had more participants than the one in Kolkata. Indonesia: A letter from Sadashiva dasa to Kavicandra Swami Posted September 27, 2004 Denpasar, 25 July 2004. Dear Guru Maharaja, please accept my most humble obeisances under your holy lotus feet. Guru Maharaja, the kite competition on Thursday 22 July 2004 conducted at Padang Galak beach was wonderful. The Jay Jagannatha kite was made by Parasurama dasa Prabhu's group in Canggu, with Sundar Govinda dasa Prabhu as a painter. The kite was 7 meters wide with a 200-meter tail donated by Ida Bagus Ugrasena, the owner of the Maharani Hotel at Kuta. He and his wife came to the kite competition, and it was he who made it possible for us to take part in the competition. Jay Jagannatha was the biggest and the longest kite there. The kite competition is divided into two groups: From Kavicandra Swami Posted September 15, 2004 On July 27, 2004, the auspicious day of Lord Jagannatha's return Ratha Yatra in Puri, the devotees in Bali, Indonesia, held their first full-size public Ratha Yatra. Special guests present for the inauguration included the following:
They all spoke with great appreciation for the devotees and the Mahamantra. From Kavicandra Swami Posted May 20, 2004 April 9 thru 12 was the 16th annual Durban Ratha Yatra. The devotees always work hard to make each one better than the last, and the results are obvious. The area was large and the tents were better than first class. Friday was the first day. On Saturday, the first Ratha Yatra parade went along the crowded beach and then through the downtown. On Monday night there was the return Ratha Yatra, which went in the opposite direction, past all the tourist hotels, and returned along the beach. From Kavicandra Swami Posted February 10, 2004 In early January I made it back to West Africa. Because I did not need a visa for Ivory Coast, my first stop was the principal city there, Abidjan. I landed at 7 PM. Several devotees work at the airport, so I was able to go through the formalities and get outside quickly. After a fast stop at the temple for bathing, we went for a radio show that goes from 10 until midnight. It was the first revival of a religiously oriented show, and the moderator was favorable. The call-in questions were sober, and all went well. On Saturday, we had a press conference at the temple. Reporters from four newspapers came, and some nice articles appeared. The media in West Africa are interested in spiritual things, and it is nice to meet with them. Worshiping Lord Vamana Deva in Israel From Kavicandra Swami Posted November 2, 2003 The devotees in Ari'el (West Bank) had a blissful celebration for the appearance of Lord Vamana deva.
Another
Great Preaching Year Ahead So it has been another glorious year, preaching the glories of Lord Sri Caitanya's sankirtan mission and Srila Prabhupada's book-distribution mission. As I look back and reflect on this past year, I see how my life has been blessed in so many countless ways, how by trying to walk in the footsteps of all the great saints— my Guru Maharaj, Srila Prabhupada, Lord Nityananda, and Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu— I find each step bringing me closer, by their mercy, closer to the lotus feet of Lord Sri Caitanya. I am trying to realize that such an insignificant insect as I am can indeed be a most fortunate spirit soul. By the mercy of Guru and Krsna, I am praying that I shall always remember them, always remain in their association, and keep them in my heart. Hare Krsna.
Street
Chanting It seems that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu is often trying to remind me of the importance of Harinam sankirtan (public chanting). Recently in Tokyo, Audarya Prabhu, an Israeli devotee, was distributing books, and he met a gentleman who had seen the chanting party in London 30 years ago. He had a good memory and took a book. |
