Child Abuse: Did
Srila Prabhupada Know?

Submitted by Dravida Dasa
Posted September 30, 2004

Some time ago an absurd and offensive argument was put forward that Srila Prabhupada, when with us, was omniscient just like Krsna and thus knew every detail of the child abuse in gurukula—even before it happened. Of course, innumerable statements from sastra and by Srila Prabhupada himself refute this argument. In addition, the following quotation from a book by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura should forever lay to rest this misconception:

Prisoners Helping Prisoners
A letter from Jivananda das to Shyama Priya Devi Dasi
Posted September 29, 2004

Many times people ask us why we are helping people in prison. They committed the crime. Why not let them do the time? But we see that we are all prisoners in this material world. Some of us are in a state or federal prison, and some of us are in the prison of our minds or a physically disabled body, but just having a material body is a type of prison. We have no freedom to enjoy all our insatiable desires. So we, at the Prison Ministry, try to help others and ourselves by practicing Krsna consciousness. The following letter is a nice example of how Krsna consciousness is working in the prisons.

My Personal Update
From Bhakti Tirtha Swami
Posted September 28, 2004

Dear Maharaja and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to ISKCON Founder Acharya Srila Prabhupada.

My personal update.

I have completed my first few weeks of intensive treatments in Mexico. They went from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Eight hours each day I was on IV, which administers different solutions through a catheter, which was inserted into my chest.

In about 10 days I will have some tests to have an evaluation about the cancer. Earlier, it had spread to other parts of the body, but hopefully we have now stopped it from advancing and gradually it will be eliminated.

"Shoot for the Rhinoceros"

After the Woodstock festival, we returned to the Baltic coast to resume our summer festivals. But no sooner had we arrived than Maya's forces dealt us a blow. We had chosen a town near our summer base and had signed the contract with city hall well in advance. Two days before the festival we did Harinam and flooded the town with thousands of invitations. Our colorful posters could be seen everywhere. Tourists were pouring in, and the whole town was buzzing about the upcoming event.

The second day I took the Harinam party out for another day of advertising. We chanted on the beach, occasionally stopping to speak to crowds about our festival the next day. At the end, we were exhausted. I crawled into my van after the Harinam was over.

'The Supreme Mystic'
A new book by Amal Bhakta Dasa

Posted September 27, 2004

"Our life members love the book—for so many reasons." That's what Nirantara Dasa, the Life Membership director of the Los Angeles temple, says about Amal Bhakta Dasa's The Supreme Mystic—A Biographical Novel About The Early Years of Lord Krishna (a Krishna Productions book, $17.95, 348 pages, paperback). Nirantara Prabhu has given it as a gift to many of his members, and they invariably tell him that they found it, "entertaining, fascinating, spiritually informative, and easily understandable."

Emphasizing Krishna's pastimes and only mildly touching on philosophy and theology, this page-turner manages to absorb and involve readers of almost all ages in an ongoing, escalating transcendental meditation. The overall result? An exciting, moving, and inspiring experience!

Forever Grateful to
Srila Prabhupada

From Padmapani das
Posted September 16, 2004

Thinking back to the late sixties and early seventies, I fondly remember how the Hare Krsna mantra had already infiltrated contemporary culture because of Srila Prabhupada's extraordinary efforts to spread the holy names throughout the world. A number of famous musicians and artists had begun to discover the chanting and were promoting it in their records and books.

For example, the Broadway musical Hair was a big hit and the accompanying record, which included the chanting of Hare Krsna, became a popular staple on the radio. George Harrison recorded the song "My Sweet Lord" with the melodious chanting of Krsna's names in the background, and prior to that, the words "Hare Krsna" could be found on one of the Beatles' albums.
