Ratha Yatra in Seattle Posted September 21, 2004 Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! ISKCON Seattle celebrated its 10th annual Jagannatha Ratha Yatra and Festival of India on August 27, 28, and 29 at Seattle's pier 58 (near the Seattle Aquarium). The three-day festival of India was well received by devotees, congregation members, and the general public. We served around 5,000 plates of prasadam during these three days, and the main parade was graced by H.H. Hanumat Presak Swami. The weatherman had predicted rain for the weekend, but the Lord had a different desire, and thus we bathed in golden rays. The menu on the day of the Lord's parade consisted of matar paneer sabji, blueberry and peach halava, saffron rice, tomato cream chole, tomato and herb chutney, papadams, and zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper, and cauliflower pakoras. The papadams and pakoras were cooked on the festival site, and we were serving them hot and tasty.
Many book distributors were distributing transcendental literature, and the preaching was constant. We also had cultural and folk dances, kirtans, bhajans, and plays. We are sure that this festival had a tremendous impact on the minds and hearts of countless casual visitors and guests. The festival brought out the best in many devotees. Everyone was in ecstasy and wanted to do more to serve the Lord. The big crew of volunteers ensured that Lord's festival was organized nicely and everyone had a good time. Our temple president and local GBC leader, HG Harivilas Das, led from the front by putting out tremendous effort and cooking till the wee hours. Please visit the temple's website at www.IskconSeattle.com for upcoming programs and other related info. Your Servant, © dipika.org September 21, 2004 |
