Fall Festivals in Alachua, Florida
Posted August 29, 2004

The fall festival season in New Raman Reti, Alachua Florida: Please be sure to attend Alachua’s famous and elaborate festivals. Due to the large population of resident devotees— over 600— we have plenty of helping hands and association. We generally attract hundreds of devotees from all over the southeastern United States. His Holiness Lokanatha Maharaja will be giving a week-long discourse on Srimad Bhagavatam, beginning with Krsna’s pastimes in Vrndavana, up to the killing of Kamsa. The series will include devotional songs, and dramas, and will go through Sept. 4.

Pirating: Letters from the EC
Submitted by Nrsimhananda dasa

Posted August 28, 2004

Because of the continued flagrant violation of international law, GBC law, and custom-tailored GBC resolutions on the specific issue, Brahmananda and Gargamuni are not allowed to give any keynote address, sit on the Vyasasana, emcee any ISKCON events, or be given any public stamp of approval until they are found to be in compliance with the GBC-brokered agreement that they entered into in 2002. Moreover, no ISKCON organizations or devotees are permitted to purchase illegitimate or legitimate goods from them. In effect, ISKCON members are to boycott the brothers' business altogether.

It's true: Indradyumna Swami does not exaggerate. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of Jurek Owsniak, the organizer of the festival and a good friend of the devotees. If I can get one, I will post it. In any case, I will be posting more photos of the festival in the next few days.

Stop Copyright Violation
From the GBC Executive Committee
Posted August 22, 2004

Dear Devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The GBC has gone on record in its resolution of March 11, 2002, that it does not approve of the violation of copyrights, and it has prohibited such activities in ISKCON. Especially when devotees work hard and then the products they create are copied without prior communication or remuneration, it creates a disturbance in the society. With this in mind the GBC instructs all ISKCON temples, shops, and devotees to not purchase such goods.

BTS Update
From Bhakti Tirtha Swami
Posted August 22, 2004

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to ISKCON Founder Acarya Srila Prabhupada.

Yesterday after a team of doctors reviewed all of my test results, the spokesperson informed me of the need for immediate amputation, chemotherapy, radiation, etc. He also stated that there is a need for another biopsy operation to take out some of the lymph nodes that seem to be also diseased by cancer. They could give no guarantees of the results of the treatment.

I asked if I did not follow through on their plan or did nothing, how long I could expect to live. The doctor's reply was six months.

"Up on the Hill"

As I work on this chapter of my diary, I am at a loss as to how to begin and how to finish. The great Woodstock festival has just concluded. I don't know how to put it into words—Krsna's Village of Peace, situated on a small plateau over the festival site and looking like a temple on a hill, and the miraculous events that took place there over three days.

From every direction at the Woodstock festival, the 300,000 people who attended could see us. A month earlier, we were inspecting the general area with Jurek Owsiak, the main organizer. Jurek pointed to the plateau. "That hill's for Krsna," he said. It was a gift whose value we could only appreciate after Woodstock had actually begun.

Bhakti Tirtha Swami
Critically Sick

Posted August 17, 2004

From a letter by Bhakti Caru Swami, written to the GBC, now being circulated

I did not phone Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj yesterday, thinking that I would rather wait until he gets the pathologist's report. However, in the evening, I received a phone call from one of Maharaj's disciples, Citi-sakti devi dasi, who is a doctor herself. In a voice choked with emotion, she informed me that she just learned from one of her Godsisters in Washington that Maharaj's report says that his cancer is on level four plus. I did not know what that count meant, but I could understand that it must be quite ominous.

I immediately phoned Washington. Once again, I admired how wonderfully Maharaj has trained up his disciples. I know how a disciple generally feels at a time like this, naturally wanting his spiritual master to take rest without disturbance, but as soon the Mataji who answered the phone realized that I was on the line, she immediately informed Maharaj.

Parikrama 2004

"Let my eyes become overwhelmed watching the beautiful nectarine waves of the forest of Vrndavana, let my intelligence become merged in the nectarine ocean of the glories of Vrndavana, and let my body roll on the ground of Vrndavana due to being absorbed in the current of spiritual bliss. Oh, may I always offer obeisance’s at the feet of all living entities who reside in Vrndavana."

Experience the transcendental walk of a lifetime! The time has come to experience that spiritual bliss in the month of Kartik by walking, chanting, dancing, and feasting through the twelve forest of Vraj in the association of His devotees, where Lord Krishna’s pastimes are going on eternally. Here on parikrama, you can read, hear, and meditate on these pastimes while being physically present in the original transcendental pastime sites.

"Nerves of Steel"

When we woke up on the morning of Monday July 12, we couldn't believe our eyes. The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Devotees ran outside just to have a look. For weeks on end, we had struggled with the rain, wind, and cold. One by one, devotees had come down with colds and flu, and at one point I had even thought of canceling the rest of the summer tour.

The blue skies and the first warm breezes of summer made us feel as if a huge weight had been lifted from our spirits, and after our morning program we eagerly prepared for Harinam and the festival that afternoon in Pobierowo. But as we often experience on our festival tours, a golden opportunity was nearly ruined by a potential setback.

"A Lesson from an Old Cleaning Man"

Since the beginning of our summer tour it has rained every day, and unseasonably cold weather has prevailed. One couldn't imagine more unfavorable circumstances for outdoor festivals. Advertising the programs has become a cat-and-mouse game with the weather. Each day we start Harinam under threatening dark clouds and chant until the rain starts. Then we find shelter from the downpour, wait for it to stop, and begin again. This goes on for hours each day, and after many weeks it has become a test of our determination.

It is also a challenge for the thousands of festivalgoers who brave the bad weather to come to our festivals, only to have to dash into our tents many times throughout the programs when it rains.
