Ananda's Article: In an article posted on Chakra.org, May 29, 2004, Ananda Das propounds some unusual and frankly unenlightened views on Srila Prabhupada, the Ganges, the brains of women, and astrology as well as the alleged moon landings. The author then expands his views as if they were already established scientific facts. The reality, of course, is that they are not. While the author appears on the surface to be a reasonable person, his article says nothing meaningful about Srila Prabhupada's position or the relationship between a guru and his disciple but is simply an exposé of his own immature and strange understanding in these matters. Among devotees there is always room for differences of opinion about the application of details, but in the case of the author it is easy to spot a fundamental deviation in the method that he suggests we use for discerning reality. Diary of a Traveling Preacher Posted June 25, 2004 June 2 - 12, 2004 "The City of Scissors" As our tour went on, I was especially looking forward to our program in Kielce, a moderate-sized town of 100,000 people nestled in a beautiful forested region of Poland. In 1993 we had a small but successful festival there, and I remembered the people as especially pious. Our congregation members there were eager to have us return, and in recent weeks, they had gone out of their way to put up hundreds of posters. I considered hiring a security firm, but I remembered the warmth of the people, and when I heard of the growing interest in the festival within our congregation, I decided against it. My decision would prove to be a mistake, however, and almost cost us dearly, for Kali-yuga has firmly taken root in Kielce since my visit in 1993. From Padmalochan das & Vrindavan Lila devi dasi Posted June 24, 2004 Dear Devotees, Hare Krishna! Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Jagannatha Snana Yatra has just been celebrated in a most ecstatic and wonderful way in Mayapur. Thousands of devotees from all over Mayapur lined up for many hours to have a chance to bathe Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi. Most people brought clay pots full of Ganga water from quite a distance. They had walked all the way to Jagannatha Mandir. Some bathed Their Lordships with milk or yogurt, which they brought from their homes.

Diary of a Traveling Preacher May 2 - June 1, 2004 "The Pampered Prince" As my flight circled over Warsaw waiting for permission to land, I looked out the window at the city below. Even from the sky, Warsaw wasn't attractive. Once one of the more beautiful cities in Europe, it was leveled by relentless bombing by the German air force in World War 2. The rebuilding of the city was done by people who had little appreciation for architecture or design. Nevertheless, I looked forward to my arrival. Poland has been my prabhu-datta- desh, my assigned preaching field, for 15 years. In effect, I was returning home. I'd been away for nine months, traveling, preaching, and fundraising for my festival tour in Poland. I'd worked hard and had grown noticeably older. In fact, at 55, I was feeling the rigors of traveling more than ever. In South Africa, a devotee asked me about it. "Aren't you getting a bit old for those daily Harinams and festivals you have in Poland?" he asked. "You have trouble just walking up the stairs these days." Looking for Draupadi Devi Dasi Posted June 20, 2004 Haribol! I am looking for a devotee named Draupadi devi dasi. She lives in the North Carolina area and is an amazing artist. We met in Dallas in the early '80s and lost touch, but reconnected at TKG's memorial service. I lost her phone number, and the email I have for her is no longer valid. She is like a big sister to me and I miss her very much. If anyone knows her please tell her that her little sister Krishna is desperately trying to get in touch with her. I can be reached at Thank you. [Article complete on this page]
Diary of a Traveling Preacher March 12 - May 1, 2004 "The Jolly Swami" I was waiting for Sridhar Maharaja in the arrival hall at London's Heathrow airport. Finally he appeared and started walking slowly toward me. He smiled as he came close. "What chapter of the diary are you up to?" he asked. I immediately hugged him. "I just sent out chapter 12," I answered. He smiled again. "I guess I'll be in the next chapter," he said, "but I won't be around to read it." I couldn't answer. It was true, what he had said. He was in the terminal stage of liver cancer, and he was going to the holy dhama of Mayapura to spend his final days.

An Answer to Ananda dasa [The following is a response to an article on Chakra.org entitled "Only the Unattainable Guru Makes No Mistakes," by Ananda dasa. I have not posted a link to the article because it is insulting to Srila Prabhupada and I don't want to encourage people to read it, but it is there if anyone wants to look for it.] Here's a good riposte to Ananda dasa by Srila Prabhupada himself. Ananda repeatedly refers to sections of our teachings that he either doesn't like or understands as ancient, as if this is now left behind and modern times require something different. Not according to Prabhupada: From a Lecture on SB 5.6.8, Nov. 30, 1976 Vrndavana: Posted June 15, 2004 The Chariot Festival will be held Saturday June 26th at the Krishna Temple one mile south of Spanish Fork on Main St. This festival is modeled after the oldest ongoing festival known to man. For the last three thousand years, the Jagannatha Chariot Festival has been observed in Puri, a town in the Indian state of Orissa. Annually in the month of June, the town of 70,000 swells to one million population, as pilgrims arrive from all parts of India (and the world) to help pull the gigantic Chariot of Jagannatha (Jagat=Universe, Natha=Lord, Jagannatha=Lord of the Universe). The chariot in Puri is built afresh each year, is five stories high, has sixteen massive wheels, and takes hundreds of people to hand-pull it through the streets. The Story of Gopal
Jiu In the remote village of Gadeigiri, east-central Orissa, ISKCON has constructed a large temple to glorify the village Deity, Gopal. The Giri family of Gadeigiri village has worshiped Gopal for more than 250 years and witnessed Gopal's many unique and amazing pastimes. Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja was born to a daughter of the Giri family and from his early childhood rendered various services to Gopal. Throughout his life Gour Govinda Swami would always go to visit Gopal whenever possible. He left this world while gazing at a photo of Gopal. The last word he spoke was, "Gopal." The following account is adapted from the book, Gopal Jiu: The Beloved Deity of Srila Gour Govinda Swami. The Library at Padma Academy Posted June 4, 2004 An opportunity to complete the collection of devotional books for Krishna’s children. Every book makes a difference. Visitors gasp with delight when visiting our library. Four thousand books is quite a lot for a small school. When a kind donor recently gave us a large box of books by ISKCON authors, we realized that the children of our school now have almost all existing books from Srila Prabhupada and his followers. With that dream within our grasp, a student’s mother made a list of all the books we are still missing. The total price, as listed in the Krishna Culture catalog, is about $600. This does not include works published by the BBT, Archives, or Torchlight, all of whom kindly donate to our library. The teachers, the students, and the students' families remember them with gratitude every day. Posted June 4, 2004 A chance to make a big difference to our children How do butterflies find their way when they migrate? Why do plants turn toward the sun? How satisfying it is to assist these children in exploring Krishna’s greatness through nature! And now you have the opportunity to be a part of this thrill of discovery. Two kind donors have already given us almost $1000 of the $5000 needed to purchase the equipment, kits, and videos to complete our nature study program for grades 1 through 8 (ages 5 through 13— our school goes up to age 18). With some help from each of you reading this, we will soon have a first-class facility to educate these devotees.

We are in the very beginning stages of planning. All positive input is welcome. Our forum is apolitical. In 1965, Srila Prabhupada left Vrndavan to come to America, where he brought the key and opened the door to Gaudiya Vaisnavism for the entire world. That door opened by Srila Prabhupada has resulted in many Gaudiya Vaisnavas who are currently preaching throughout the world and many new devotees being made. Indeed this is a very wonderful thing. At the same time the following must be considered: Many of the first devotees to come to Krsna consciousness are getting older and due to various circumstances, for many of these older-bodied devotees, especially ladies, there are no Gaudiya Vaisnava ashrams or communities that will accommodate them.
