Holy Salagram Silas
By Ravi Sihra

Posted February 16, 2004

I wish to thank Bhakti Visrambha Madhava Swami for answering my question about the vast amount of holy Salagram Silas.

When I visited the Karuna Bhavana temple in Scotland I was amazed to see over 12,000 Salagram Silas. I sat looking at the Salagram Silas and went into a sort of trance for about an hour, just gazing at them because I felt that they were special. Then I thought that if They were to be treated as you would treat Deities, They should be kept separate. I felt that each one has a kind of spiritual aura so They might be better kept separate than in one large container.

Dear Vaishnavas,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I invite you to visit the Hare Krsna Realaudio Website, www.chantandbehappy.com. Anadi Krsna Prabhu and I have posted over 80 new bhajans and kirtans since the last week of November 2003. On the "Bhajans(Music)" page, there are many nice recordings featuring the Hare Krsna Mahamantra, along with other Vaishnava songs for which you will find links to the lyrics and translations. This allows you to follow along and enter more deeply into the meaning of the song while it is playing. Here is a partial list of song titles that you will find featured on Chantandbehappy.com:

ITV Screenings in Mayapur
Posted February 16, 2004

"The Full Nectarine," a previously unreleased play starring Srila Prabhupada at the Brooklyn Zoo in 1968, and the old "Hare Krishna People," are among dozens of films/videos being shown in the Samadhi auditorium every night from February 19th until March 7th 5:30-7:00 pm.

ITV has assembled both historic and rare programs that have become classics in the development of the Hare Krishna Movement. Statistically, most devotees have seen very few of the shows available from the ITV library. The large attendance expected in Mayapur offers an unprecedented opportunity to share these gems with devotees from all parts of the planet.

Funding for Child Protection
From Devahotra das
Posted February 11, 2004

ISKCON has made much progress in the protection of children through the hard work of the devotees in the Office of Child Protection, teaching, guiding and inspiring communities and individuals to be empowered in dealing with this insidious evil. Let us not forget the damage wrought to so many children who as adults today suffer as a consequence of the debased lust of a few. We owe it to them to fund the Office of Child Protection fully, and ensure that the future generations of devotee children are protected. Religious organizations do attract misfits and morally corrupted individuals. The price of child protection is eternal vigilance. Paying for the Office of Child Protection is money well spent.

Sri Advaita catches Sri Nitai Prabhu's lotus foot

Sri Advaitacarya
Is on the Altar

Text & photos by
Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi

Posted February 10, 2004

Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Here are the photos of Sri Advaitacarya being put on the altar. He and Gauranga were the most difficult ones. Now we can say this, because at the time of writing this, all the members of the Pancha-tattva are already on the altar.

Sri Advaita was difficult to put on the altar because the position of His left hand is such that on His way to His place, His hand caught onto Lord Nityananda's right knee. At that time Advaita was suspended in the air and swinging a bit, so He could easily have knocked Lord Nityananda over.

A Tour of West Africa
From Kavicandra Swami
Posted February 10, 2004

In early January I made it back to West Africa. Because I did not need a visa for Ivory Coast, my first stop was the principal city there, Abidjan. I landed at 7 PM. Several devotees work at the airport, so I was able to go through the formalities and get outside quickly.

After a fast stop at the temple for bathing, we went for a radio show that goes from 10 until midnight. It was the first revival of a religiously oriented show, and the moderator was favorable. The call-in questions were sober, and all went well. On Saturday, we had a press conference at the temple. Reporters from four newspapers came, and some nice articles appeared. The media in West Africa are interested in spiritual things, and it is nice to meet with them.

Just 16 Days to Go
From Ambarisa Dasa

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Pancha-tattva.

Today [February 7] we received news that Sri Pancha-tattva have arrived in Sri Mayapur awaiting Their installation in the temple.

We are just 16 days away to this most auspicious event on February 23rd. While I'm feeling very excited, I also am feeling very grateful that so many devotees have stepped forward, joining together to make this most auspicious event possible.

If you haven't already become a sponsor, please look at our website www.panchatattva.com where you'll find many opportunities for participating in this "once in a day of Brahma" service. There are only a few weeks left, so please take this opportunity if it is within your means.

Book Distribution
Seminar in Mayapur

From Aisvarya dasa

There's a lot being said these days about distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. Some say it's an eternal subject matter. Others say the more we talk about it the more relishable it becomes. The fact of the matter is that Srila Prabhupada was the most pleased when his books went out. That cannot be denied.

Lord Gauranga
Standing on the Altar

From Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi
& Padmalochan Das

Posted February 7, 2004

Hare Krishna! Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Today, as of the time of evening Gaura-arotik (between 6:30 and 7:00 PM Mayapur time), the form of Lord Gauranga been transported and positioned on the altar. What a big day of hard work!

Starting at 11:30 AM, devotees were struggling to bring the Deity into the temple and onto the altar. There were unexpected delays. When the cart carrying the Deity got to the doorway of the temple room, we discovered that Gauranga's wide-open arms wouldn't fit in the doorway and it was already too late and not possible to turn Him, so devotees had to quickly demolish part of the wall. Then the cart got a flat tire.

Salagram: Satisfied by Devotion
From Damana Krishna dasa
Posted February 7, 2004

Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I have seen many Deities made from silas glued together, like Padmanabha in Trivandrum. I don't think that Krishna is uncomfortable. Rather, I see that He likes to be embraced in all his forms. One devotee told he dreamed his silas had some meeting and were discussing things. I am grateful to Krishna that He at all came to the material world, which is a horrible place where there is a lack of purity, spiritual energy, etc.

BTG Turns 60
Posted February 7, 2004

Dear devotees and temple leaders,

Please accept our humble obeisances. Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

Next Tuesday, February 10, is Srila Bhaktisiddhanta's appearance day. On this same day, exactly 60 years ago, Srila Prabhupada launched Back to Godhead magazine (BTG).

We have composed a short history of BTG, highlighting how Srila Bhaktisiddhanta requested Srila Prabhupada to publish this magazine, as well as other little-known facts. For example, did you know that the cover of the first ever BTG magazine bore the title: "Back-to-Godhead, An instrument for training the mind and educating human nature to rise up to the plane of the soul spirit, First appearance on the Vyas Puja Day 1944, edited and founded under direct order of His Divine Grace Sri Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada, by Abhay Charan De"? Sixty years later, BTG still strives for this same goal.

We are asking that you please print our message below for the devotee giving Srimad Bhagavatam class next Tuesday. We hope he or she will read it to supplement the special class on that day.

Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

We celebrated Lord Varahadeva's appearance day in Sridham Mayapur.

Lord Varaha is the Lord of Koladvip here in Navadvip Dhama. In Koladvip one is forgiven for all offenses including Vaishnava aparadha, so we are all praying to Lord Varahadeva to pull us out of the material ocean in the same way that he lifted up Mother Earth.

Everyone appreciated beauty of Lord Varaha as he defeated Hiranyaksha. They looked like two dramatic actors onstage.

Salagrama Sila: A Question
From Ravi Sihra
Posted February 2, 2004

I visited the Karuna Bhavana temple in Scotland recently and was pleased to see that it is a very nice temple with beautiful Deities. The Srimati Vrinda Devi deity is very special. The view outside of the Scottish highlands is wonderful, as it is nature at its best. The highlight is the vast amount of Salagram Silas. The Salagram Silas are very, very special. It is amazing to see over 12,000 Salagram Silas.

I sat looking at the Salagram Silas for about an hour, and I felt that They should not be placed in one big steel container all piled up one on top of the other, as the ones underneath seemed to me to need more air and space. They seemed to be trapped underneath, and all Their respective powers seemed to be compressed. I feel that They should be placed on a soft material separately in cup-shape containers on steel tables in a large room.

Salagram:
Rules for Worship

From Bhakti Visrambha Madhava Swami

Posted February 2, 2004

The ISKCON GBC has given us Pancaratna Pradipa, and I thought of the following section:

A devotee with two salagrama-silas should worship Them separately to avoid becoming distracted:

Worshiping two dvaraka-silas or two salagrama-silas at once will cause disturbance in the mind. [Mantra-tantra-prakasa, quoted in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa]

However, if a devotee has three or more salagrama-silas, he may worship them simultaneously. In such a case he should offer full worship to only one sila, known as the pradhana-sila; all the others he should simply bathe together with the pradhana-sila and offer Them tulasi, candana, and flowers.

In response to your e-mail which was forwarded to me on the worship of Salagram.

Bhakti Vidya Purna Maharaj has been here in Scotland on two occasions since the worship of numerous Silas began and has not made any comments, adverse or other, and our relationship is quite open, so I would hope that if we were doing anything untoward, he would be kind enough to say so.
