Mayapur
Bhakta Sanjaya Leaves Body
Posted January 15, 2004

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to
Srila Prabhupada!

One of Mayapur's sankirtan devotees left his body at 4:00 AM on 13th January 2004. Bhakta Sanjay was suffering from blood cancer. Three days ago he was feeling all right and had gone for book distribution in Kolkata, when all of a sudden he fell sick. He was admitted to the Sishu Mangal Hospital in Kolkata, where doctors found that he was suffering from blood cancer.

During the days he spent in the hospital, Bhakta Sanjaya was calm and quiet. Blood cancer is a disease that often gives much pain, but Bhakta Sanjaya did not suffer very much. Sankirtan devotees were with him all the time. Even though hospitals here do not usually allow visitors outside visiting hours, in this case the hospital authorities allowed our devotees to be with him.

This hospital is managed by the Ramakrishna Mission. The monks there are always very respectful to our devotees and provide extra facilities and treatment, and in this case they allowed our devotees to be with Bhakta Sanjaya until the end. Devotees were chanting near him when finally, today at 4:00 AM, during the auspicious brahma-muhurta, Bhakta Sanjaya left his body.

His remains were brought to our Kolkata temple, where devotees offered prasadam-flowers of Sri Sri Radha-Govinda, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and Jagannath-Baladeva-Subhadra. Then his body was brought to Sridham Mayapur. He was received at the main gate by a sankirtan party and placed in front of the brahmacari ashram, next to a Tulasi-garden, where devotees offered flower prasadam again.

Thanks and appreciation from dipika.org to our sponsor and host,

Bhakta Sanjaya was born in Northeastern India, in the state of Assam, Karbialong Province, belonging to the Karbi race. In this part of Assam, Christian missionaries are very active, trying to convert Hindus to Christianity. Several young boys from that region have joined ISKCON Mayapur to receive training from us and later returned to that hill area to preach Krishna Consciousness.

Bhakta Sanjaya was a good book distributor, loved by all devotees for his simplicity. He was very enthusiastic and always cooperated with his authorities. He was very happy to distribute Srila Prabhupada's books in His Divine Grace's birth city, Kolkata.

He was not yet initiated, but he has taken shelter of the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada, dedicating his life to Srila Prabhupada's mission. We request all devotees to please pray for Bhakta Sanjaya so that his progress back home to Lord Krsna's eternal shelter will be as smooth as possible.

Bhakta Sanjaya is survived by his elder brother and younger sister, who are also Vaisnavas.

All devotees of ISKCON Mayapur, the sankirtan devotees in particular, are very sad about the passing away of Bhakta Sanjaya and miss him, who could have done much more service to Srila Prabhupada.
