with the 6.28 yunjann evam sadatmanam Comment: Some recent correspondence I had with a respected godsister sheds light on how and why the translation for this verse was revised. The correspondence also, perhaps, offers some insights into how we think about such revisions. Dear . . . . Regarding the text of the book ["Teachings of Lord Caitanya"], you write, > I would be even more happy to

for the Family Hare Krsna, Valmiki das from Russia passed away a few days ago in Los Angeles. Since he didn't have his family here the state took his body and won't give us the ashes unless we contact his family. Valmiki was one of the first of Prabhupada's disciples from Russia. He was about 53 years old, and his legal name was Vladimir Sakharov. If anyone knows how we can contact his family please let us know. Thank you. Hare Krsna. Vrndavana Lila [Article complete on this page] By Madana-mohana dasa Posted December 30, 2003 The house is situated in the peaceful and nice Madhuvan Colony, near the Krishna-Balaram Temple. It is far enough from the main road so that the traffic cannot be heard. The temple is just about seven minutes' walk away. When you go along the parikrama path you have to turn left at the Krishna Balaram tree and go a few more meters. Many nice western devotees are living in this area and also the "Pepsi-building" is just there. New Website: Cooking with Kurma Posted December 30, 2003 The Hare Krishna Movement's celebrity author and TV Chef Kurma Dasa invites you to visit his new website http://www.kurma.net A feast of information about his books, cookery classes and videos, lots of recipes, plus media reviews, a substantial guide to menu planning, and a kitchen glossary. The
Flight of the Crow The following story appeared in issue number 57 of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu, the free fortnightly email magazine from ISKCON Gopal Jiu Publications. The following story, told by Salya to Karna, from the forty-first chapter of the "Karna-parva" of Mahabharata nicely illustrates the dangers of pride. There once lived a wealthy vaisya by the side of the ocean. He performed many sacrifices and gave generously in charity. He was quiet, observant of the duties of his order, and was pure in his habits and mind. The vaisya had a number of sons all of whom were pious and kind to all living creatures. Living in a place that was ruled over by a pious king, the vaisya was peaceful and free from anxiety. America Report, By Avadhuta Siromani Dasa Posted December 24, 2003 October 28, 2003 (from The Diary of a Padayatri) It rained all day... We were coming close to Georgia. License plates were changing, trees, people, etc. To move even an inch was a great task. In other words every stop of our journey south has been just a gigantic miracle. It is the mercy of our Lordships. Materially speaking, if you were to try to calculate this program it would be impossible. We have crossed Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. It is unbelievable because there is danger at every step in this world and we have been protected by the Lord. Otherwise how is it possible?

Pancha Tattva A Humble Appeal From Bhakti Purusottama Swami Posted December 22, 2003 A most humble appeal to everyone concerning the Pancha Tattva Deity installation: Please chant a few extra rounds of japa to offer to Pancha Tattva for Their manifestation. Dear Prabhus/Maharajs, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All of you know that the Pancha Tattva Deity installation at Sri Dham Mayapur has been scheduled to take place on 23rd February 2004. Theses Deities are now there in Their smaller forms. Soon They are going to manifest in Their life-size forms, with a seven-foot-high Deity of Mahaprabhu. South
America New Dvaraka, ISKCON Los Angeles– Dear Vaisnavas, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. It is with the greatest sadness that I must announce the passing away of Her Grace Candravali Devi Dasi, a most prominent leader of ISKCON in Guyana, South America. After battling with health issues for some years and a major operation in Pakistan a few weeks ago, Candravali Devi left this world in London on December 11, in the presence of her husband, Sriman Haridas Prabhu, and other relatives. As prepared with utmost affection by her loving fellow devotees in Guyana, below is a brief account of her life's activities as an ISKCON member and a summary of her devoted, selfless service to the mission of Srila Prabhupada in propagating Lord Caitanya's Movement in a veritable nook and corner of this world.
Diary
of a Traveling Preacher November 2 – December 17, 2003 "Will We Have Harinama?" As my flight circled over Sarajevo, Bosnia, waiting for permission to land, I saw that the first snow of winter had already fallen on the city. On our descent, I also caught a glimpse of the ancient mosque in the city center. During my last visit, seven years ago, Muslim soldiers attacked our Harinama procession there. The people of Sarajevo were shocked by this provocation on foreigners, only months after a prolonged war in the Balkans had ended, and they came by the thousands to our festival the next day to express their sympathy. As the devotees drove me to an apartment, my mind was filled with vivid memories of how the city had looked seven years ago, with almost every building damaged by the war, so I was surprised to see that they had almost all been repaired.
Padayatra
America Report, October 23 - 28, 2003 (from The Diary of a Padayatri) We crossed the Francis Marion National Forest, and gradually the congestion began. Monk's Corner and Summerville (a suburb of Charleston) were the biggest cities we would go through. As we traveled on Route 17A en route to Walterboro, literally thousands of people saw the Padayatra, and as always, even on a busy road, some came forward. Too much traffic makes Candrabhaga nervous and more dependent on the Lord's guidance. The intensity of her prayers of surrender to the will of Krsna is ever increasing. Mayapur: The Disappearance Day of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Text & photos by Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi Posted December 15, 2003 Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Yesterday, December 13, we celebrated Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati's Disappearance Day here in Mayapur. There is also a photo of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati's house, and the other photos are from our temple celebration. We offered pushpanjali, arotik, and prasad to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. There was an ecstatic kirtan led by Prabhas Prabhu, and afterwards, maha-prasad was distributed to everyone. Srutakirti
das from South Africa A very wonderful devotee from South Africa, Srutakirti das, left his body today [December 7] at 2:40 pm South Africa time. He joined ISKCON in 1979 when he was still a university student. He was first initiated by Jayatirtha Prabhu and then by Bhagavan Prabhu. In spite of their falldowns and subsequent spiritual difficulties, Srutakirti did not lose faith in Srila Prabhupada and his transcendental institution, ISKCON, and continued to serve in ISKCON with great determination and sincerity in many responsible positions. Opportunities at New Vrndavana Posted December 8, 2003 Your association and help are wanted. Kuladri dasa and staff would welcome inquiries from devotees desiring to live and serve in the holy dhama of New Vrndavana. Specifically needed are construction workers with carpentry, construction, and electrical skills to help maintain and rebuild the community. Many other opportunities for service are manifesting for cooks, pujaris, kirtan leaders, seamstresses— in fact, most every capacity including taking care of Radha Vrndavana Candra's cows. New Vrndavana is experiencing a spiritual renaissance. The morning program is becoming very festive. Many serious and mature devotees are actively involved in preaching (including to the Indian community). We are taking much care to provide shelter and create a very happy secure environment for guests and the Brjabasi devotees living here as well. Utah The Projector Fest From Caru Dasa Posted December 8, 2003
We subtitled the Gita Fest this year The Projector Fest. The new BenQ projector remained on from 6 pm until 9 pm in one capacity or another. From 6 pm until 6:30, as people were arriving, we showed Vrndavan, Land of Krishna on the 9-foot by 12-foot screen. The image filled up the whole screen in sharp, vivid color. Next, I introduced and explained the concept of Gita Yajna, a sacrifice wherein 108 offerings would be placed on the fire for each of the 108 key verses in the Bhagavad Gita. I asked Sri Sharma, Yogi Shah, and Dinesh and Kalpana Patel to be the yajnamanas. Our process was for me to chant each of the verses from memory and say "Svaha" while the yajnamanas put the samagri (a special blend of herbs) onto the fire. Simultaneously, each verse would appear in English on the big screen. Rajeev would use the remote control to move from one verse to the next, and then he would say the English. Gita
Jayanti in New York Dear Devotees and Friends, On Sunday, December 7, 2003, New York ISKCON will be celebrating the day when Bhagavad Gita was spoken by the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna, to his dearest friend Arjuna on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra more than 5000 years ago. In Bhagavad Gita, the sincere reader will be able to gain access to the supreme science of Krishna consciousness. This knowledge was made available to the Western world exactly as Lord Krishna spoke it by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, when he published Bhagavad Gita As It Is.

Bhagavad-gita! India Winter Comes to Mayapur Text & photos by Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi Posted December 3, 2003 Dear devotees, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Yesterday, Saturday November 29, we celebrated Audana Sasti at Jagannath Mandir. This is the first day of winter, and it is also a festival day when Their Lordships Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi wear starched clothes offered by devotees. Early in the morning, devotees went to Jagannath Mandir. First, everyone took darsan of Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi dressed in Their new starched clothes. Then Jananivasa Prabhu gave class until 12 PM. New Zealand Rathayatra in Christchurch Text & photos by Bhaktavatsala dasa Posted December 2, 2003 Haribol! Jaya Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Srimati Subhadra devi! On Sunday, 23rd day of November 2003, Lord Jagannatha (Lord of the Universe) graced the Garden City with His divine darshan (presence), to the sounds of the conch and enthusiastic kirtan by the devotees here. The Rathayatra was incorporated as a float in the Christchurch Santa Parade held annually prior to the festive season. A local, passing by with his family, commented that it was the best of all the floats. No question! And a city official, announcing the floats as they passed his location, very enthusiastically announced the Hare Krishna float and said that it had been missed last year (it wasn't in last year's parade because of technical reasons).
India Dear devotees, Hare Krishna! Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! In the last week of November, the traveling sankirtana parties left from Mayapur for the book-distribution marathon. They will be distributing books in Assam, Sikkim, Orissa, Bengal, and some states in central India.
