Enlightenment Day VIII: Dear Devotees, Those who have tried it know for themselves that Krsna awards an unusually sweet taste to anyone who makes even a small effort to distribute Srila Prabhupada's books. Indeed, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu wrote in His Siksastakam prayers: pratipadam purnamrtasvadanam — "At every step, this Sankirtana process will give you a full taste of the nectar for which you are always anxious." But amidst the myriad of wonderful ways in which one can broadcast the glories of the Holy Names, there is something utterly unique and special about distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. How to Get Free from Sex Desire By Garuda das Posted November 28, 2003 [Note: The author of this article, Garuda dasa, is a second-generation devotee, a rainbow preacher. He is not the senior Garuda dasa, who offers spiritual counseling.] Dear assembled devotees, I would like to share a practical way to help any sincere person become free from sex desire. I've been developing and sharing this method with great success for over 17 years. All you have to do is really want to. The rest is easy. This method is full of grace as well as personal mental/intellectual strengthening from wherever your starting point is. Please read on. There are four aspects of sexual bad habits that we can all do without: personal/physical, mental (thinking about it), looking at others (or illicit material), and speaking about it (flirting). U.S.A. Senior Citizens Visit Utah Temple By Caru Dasa Posted November 26, 2003
The West Jordan Senior Citizens Center, having heard good reports from other seniors' groups who have visited our temple, came with 57 people on a bus for tour and lunch. They arrived at 10:45 am. We had cooked all morning long. I made fancy rice with peanuts, raisins, and mixed vegetables, some spicy spaghetti with olives and chunks of TVP® (texturized vegetable protein), and matar paneer, the very popular Indian dish with peas and curd. For the first time I tried soaking the fried curd in warm whey, turmeric, and salt, before putting it with the peas. This soaking gave it a juicy, soft consistency. A Controlled Mind By Jayadvaita Swami Posted November 26, 2003 Bhagavad-gita As It Is 2.66 First Edition: One who is not in transcendental consciousness can have neither a controlled mind nor a steady intelligence, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace? Second Edition: One who is not connected with the Supreme [in Krsna consciousness] can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace? By Visvarupa Dasa Posted November 25, 2003 Dear Devotees, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! My elder brother, His Grace Chaturatma Prabhu, passed away on 17 November at 11:15 p.m. in Ahmedabad. We were two brothers, always sitting in wheelchairs, handicapped disciples of His Holiness Gopal Krishna Maharaja. We went to Sri Dham Vrindavana for Kartika Festival '03. We attended all the programs at Vrindavana, including Govardhana Puja and Srila Prabhupada's Disappearance Day. The day after Srila Prabhupada's Disappearance Day, Chaturatma Prabhu became sick with a heavy cough. He was hospitalized in Delhi for two days, and then was able to come back to Ahmedabad. In Ahmedabad, he was hospitalized for seven days, but later his health improved and on the 17th he was all right.

America Report, October 15, 2003 (from The Diary of a Padayatri) By the mercy of Sri Sri Nitai Gaurasundar we crossed the border between North Carolina and South Carolina. October 16, 2003 (from The Diary of a Padayatri) The temperature is 40 degrees at night and around 60 during the day. Leaving the sandy flat lands of North Carolina, full of cotton and peanuts, we are entering a gigantic area of swamps here on the coast of South Carolina. He was smiling with confidence. "You're going to miss your flight unless you give the tax," he said. Angry at his audacity, I leaned over the counter. "Go to hell," I said. It may not have been the most tactful thing to do. He picked up the phone and called several other customs officials over. As they talked off to the side, it was obvious that they were all in on the effort and for me to appeal to higher authority would be useless. Another customs official, apparently of higher rank, then came around the counter. "Come with me," he said as he led me to a nearby office.
Tulasi
Devi: Yellowing of the Leaves
Yellow leaves may be caused by many factors. (1) Iron deficiency (corrected by plant food containing iron chelate =fe) (2) Iron + magnesium deficiency (when the tips are burned and browned off). (3) Lack of a small piece of extremely dry cow dung being crumbled and added to water once a month. (4) A need to repot her, due to all the nutrients in the soil being depleted (5) Over-watering. If the tulasi is very small and is the only one receiving watering by many devotees in one house, she can have root rot.

Radhe, Jaya Krsna... Posted November 20, 2003 In Vrindavan Mahimamrita it says, "One who helps one who resides in Vrindavan makes millions of times more advancement than one who lives there, as he helps himself and the other person." I have been living in Vrindavan for eight years by the mercy of my Gurudeva, Srila Virabahu Maharaj. For five years it was my good fortune to do gurukula seva, and now I manage the womens ministry at Krsna Balaram Mandir. I also had the good fortune to reside in New Dwarka, Los Angeles, for ten years, serving Rukmini Dwarkadisha as assistant pujari and ashram leader. I am now limited in my ability to serve because of the need for total knee replacement surgery. By Supriya Kelkar Submitted by Krishna-kripa das Posted November 20, 2003 To whom it may concern: I'm writing to inform you about a salient but well-hidden health issue that I think ISKCON would find very informative. I came across the subject when I was eating a store-bought item that had a very "meaty" taste to it. A strict vegetarian, I immediately checked the ingredients to make sure I hadn't made a mistake in my purchase. There was no meat listed under the ingredients, but there was a listing that I had always found very mysterious: "flavors." I called the company, and was told that there was meat in the product. I asked why the meat wasn't listed in the ingredients.

Atma Yoga represents a new way to promote the Krsna consciousness movement. Seeing the need to take advantage of the ever-expanding hatha yoga movement for spreading Krsna consciousness, Atmananda Dasa of New Dvaraka has developed a highly appealing Vaisnava hatha yoga system. Atma Yoga is externally similar to many of the commercial yoga systems but is fueled by Bhakti shakti. The first full Atma Yoga Center was opened in Los Angeles, across from the New Dvaraka Temple, in January of this year. It has been a success, bringing new Krsna consciousness aspirants to the community.

If their rules are truly followed the followers attain Vaikuntha, not Goloka Vrndavan, but another planet in the spiritual world.

The three classes at Mountain View High School today (Thursday October 30) are not at all for adult education, as I had thought. The last time I did classes with Rod Jackman out of the UVSC (Utah Valley State College) media center, it was for adults and being video fed out to other high schools for evening classes. This is much bigger. The three classes I teach today are regular daytime classes with 30 to 40 students from Mountain View High in each class. Simultaneously, each class is video fed out to another six high schools. That makes approximately 250 students per class and three classes means more than 750 students see the classes.
U.S.A. The Vedic Theatre formed in 2001 has finally acquired an intimate 50-seat theater just three blocks from the ISKCON temple in Los Angeles for the months of January and February. This gives us an opportunity to do 12 to 16 performances of a unique adaptation entitled Mahabharata: The Final Battle. More important, it is a great springboard for preaching, and to our knowledge it is the first time that a so-called temple play, written by two devotees in 1987, is being done outside the temple area for the public at large. India Gopashtami in Mayapur Text and photos by Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi Posted November 9, 2003
Hare Krishna! Here are some photos from the Gopashtami celebration in Mayapur. There was a special darshan of Srimati Radharani's Lotus Feet. Then the devotees went to the goshala to serve the cows by cleaning the goshala and washing and feeding the cows. The senior devotees talked about the importance of cows for our spiritual progress and described pastimes of Krishna with His cows.

Amogha Virya Many years ago, I knew Amogha Virya Prabhu. This was about 1980 or so. One time, I met him briefly while I was in the Miami temple. I was just passing through for a few days and saw him there by chance. We started to talk. "Jagannatha Tirtha Prabhu," he said after a while, "can I get you some prasada?" "Sure," I said, "that would be great." India Hare Krishna, Prabhujis and Matajis! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! With the blessings and mercy of Srila Prabhupada, and on behalf of His Holiness Mahavishnu Gosvami Maharaj, we extend a warm and personal invitation to all devotees to please grace the wonderful opening of ISKCON temples in the holy dham of Dwaraka and the city town of Rajkot during the period of 6-9 December 2003.

Vrindavan, Kartik, Sharad Purnima full moon, many beautiful young gopis dancing ecstatically around Sri Sri Radha and Krishna in their colorful outfits... It sounds like a description from the 10th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, but this is what has been happening these days on the stage of our new Sandipani Muni School. The special occasion was the official opening, and the children delighted the audience with dances, songs, and devotional plays like Ramayana and Lord Krishna's and Lord Chaitanya's lilas. They worked hard for weeks to put together the whole program, and they revealed lot of talent, discipline, and enthusiasm. It is incredible to think that only one year ago most of them were begging on the streets of Vrindavan. Now they have a fully functional school and all the facilities for a brighter future.

Jivanada dasa, an inmate there, has started broadcasting Srila Prabhupada's lectures twice a week, so every man has the opportunity to start his journey back home, back to Godhead.
