Ministry Letters from Chaplains From Mother Shyama Priya Posted July 1, 2003
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Following is a letter from a chaplain, a continuation of correspondence, previously sent out. Dept. Of Corrections, Chaplaincy
Department June 23rd, 2003 International Society for Krishna
Consciousness To Mother Shyama Priya, Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ and many thanks for the material you have sent to us. We will add the literature to our library and will make them available to those inmates interested. We will send them out with volunteers to the Receiving Units. They readily receive all of those books because they cannot bring anything from county jails. We are interested in the video and audiotapes that were mentioned in your last letter. Additionally, we are able to receive hardbound books and any you can send would be much appreciated. We have placed your address on our pen-pals list. Again, your interest in this work throughout the year has never diminished. You are an example for many to follow in your continuing enthusiasm. Please relay to those who support you in this worthy endeavor, our grateful thanks as well. Sincerely, in Christ, (Following is the first letter from Chaplain Iverson, now retired) ISKCON Prison Ministry Dear Friends, We greet you hoping that this letter will find you well and that your ministry is truly blessed. We are the main receiving institution for Washington State. At least half of our population turns over every three months. The requests we receive for Krishna and other Hindu material are growing. Men who come into prison have time to deeply consider questions of faith that they might have ignored in the past. For many, they thought themselves to be good and faithful people, it is often quite a shock to be in prison. Here they face a crisis of faith they likely have never experienced. The request for Krishna and Hindu religious/material are substantially increasing. Because we are the receiving institution, our supplies run out very quickly. Could you possibly donate any Krishna and/or Hindu material to our Chapel? Any donation would be greatly appreciated and be made available for our inmates. Thank you for considering our request. We will prayerfully await your response. Sincerely, Chaplaincy Department **************** Wow! Just think! People are asking us, begging us, for books, knowledge of Krishna. Srila Prabhupada must be very pleased. I immediately sent them a case of a variety of books. Your servant, ISKCON Prison Ministry, 619-501-4602 © dipika.org July 1, 2003 |
