Puerto Rico: Adopt a Temple
By Jayasri Devi Dasi

Posted June 28, 2003

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
All glories to
Srila Prabhupada!

Having been around since 1969, I can't help but notice the shift of service devotees are now engaging in. Many of the old timers are now living outside, working 9-5's, and coming to the feast on Sunday. As they say, "back in the days" we were all fully surrendered to the temple services and lived very simply. Srila Prabhupada told all of us that in this type of situation, as Umapati Swami informed me, to give half of our income for the propagation of Krishna Consciousness.

I know most of us are not in a position or mindset to do that, but here is an opportunity to help a project that is doing very well and needs financial support:

The Puerto Rico temple is a dynamic preaching center. The Deities— Krsna-Balarama, Radha-Shymasundar, Gaura-Nitai, Lord Narasimhadeva, and Govardhan Sila— are taken care of at a very high standard. There is ongoing college preaching, some of the best I've ever seen. Food for life, great book distribution. As a matter of fact, they are sometimes at the top of the chart. There is constant temple construction and grounds improvement.

There is going to be a big, well-advertised Ratha Yatra there on December 27 and 28th. It's going to be partly financed by the city government. It will probably bring thousands of local Puerto Rican people and will also be a great preaching facility.

The only problem is lack of funds to support the project so it can continue to exist and grow.

I have been there several years in a row and I have seen it go from ghetto to magnificent temple and grounds. The devotees there are very hard working. The temple president is Vakresvara Pandit Prabhu, who is one of the most dedicated, hardworking, and selfless temple presidents I've ever met.

Request: We are requesting, on behalf of Srila Prabhupada, to please help with the finances. All of us who are earning can afford to give something, to some project. Small or large donations given regularly will insure the continued existence of this project. Money can be sent directly to the treasurer in the name of ISKCON.

Please help if you can. Please become a supporter. One stick is not strong but in a bundle it is very hard to break. We need more sticks to strengthen the bundle or it might break. If you are yourself unable to do service, please support others who are. Here is a wonderful project to support that will please Srila Prabhupada.
