Chaturdasi in Sri Mayapur: More Text and Photos by Vrindavan Lila Devi Dasi Posted May 17, 2003 Nrisimha Chaturdasi in Mayapur was ecstatic. H.H. Bhakti Vikasa Swami said in his class that when different forms of Godhead manifest as Deity forms in a place where there is already a presiding Deity, They take on the mood of presiding Deity. The presiding Deity in Mayapur is Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, so Sri Nrisimha Deva took onto His mood here. Although originally meant to be Ugra Nrisimha, He is smiling in ecstasy here in Mayapur. He is very eager for the service of the devotees, and every member of the community is allowed to render personal service to Nrisimha Deva: cook, clean His paraphernalia, grind chandan [sandalwood], offer Tulasi leaves, wash and iron His clothes, make jewelry, and so on. Even to the visitors, He gives the opportunity of rendering personal service. Everyone can offer Him a plate of fruit, a flower garland, and a ghee lamp. And visitors like this very much. Jananivasa Prabhu said that Nrisimha Deva is Godfather of the devotees. He protects their devotional service. His form is also present in Goloka Vrindavana: Nanda Maharaja worships a Deity of Nrisimha Deva. And when the gopis are entering an extreme mood of separation, He protects their existence so the pain of separation does not kill them. Nrisimha Deva ki jaya!
